Hey Friend,

So glad you're here.  This story you and I are living is so much bigger than us.  So excited to get to be a part of it with you.

Yes, You Can Do Anything - But Maybe You Shouldn't

Yes, You Can Do Anything - But Maybe You Shouldn't

I grew up believing I could do anything I set my mind to.  Many of us in America do.

We grow up believing we could be President or CEO or the first man/woman on Pluto.

And I think to some extent we can and to some extent we can't.

On one end, I will never be the next Steve Jobs.  My brain just does not work like that.

But on the other, I probably could have worked harder and become a better athlete.  Or I could go to school longer and become a nurse practitioner.

The question is, "Should I?"

So often we get caught up in the, "I can do anything," that we only focus on the "what" that thing is going to be and we forget to think about the "why" we are even pursuing that thing.

Or the "Should we?"

In turn, we choose to do things because of either how much money we make doing it, because someone else told us to do it, or because it seemed like the safest thing to do.

"So often we get caught up in the, "I can do anything," that we only focus on the "what" that thing is going to be and we forget to think about the "why" we are even pursuing that thing."

What I'm learning is that the "why" we pursue the things we pursue is much more important than the "what".

I'm learning that even though we can do anything, we were only truly made to do certain things.

God has created us in certain ways to do certain things at certain times.

But many of us, myself included, fail to come to Him before we pursue certain things like degrees and careers.

We think that, that part of our lives is up to us.  That God's not really involved in our career choices.

But the truth is, God cares a lot about how we steward the gifts He has given us.

"I'm learning that even though we can do anything, we were only truly made to do certain things."

I have in many ways tried to take things into my own hands.  I've tried starting new businesses/organizations in order to jumpstart my writing career instead of simply being faithful and putting in the work to just write.

And I think many of us do the same thing.

We try to search for shortcuts or quicker or easier ways to get to where we want to go when really God just wants us to be right where we are.

He wants us to use our gifts right where we are.

It's not always about how quickly we can succeed or how soon we figure out what it is we were made to do.  Most of the time it is about how the journey grows us closer to the one who made us to do those things.

This life isn't about us being able to do anything we set our mind to.

"It's not always about how quickly we can succeed or how soon we figure out what it is we were made to do.  Most of the time it is about how the journey grows us closer to the one who made us to do those things."
