Hey Friend,

So glad you're here.  This story you and I are living is so much bigger than us.  So excited to get to be a part of it with you.

You Are Holy

You Are Holy

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I am super excited to be a part of a book launch group for Jess Connolly's new book, Dance, Stand, Run (which is actually available for pre-order NOW!!).

The whole idea behind the book is that we as women following Christ would dance in Grace, stand our Holy ground, and run on Mission.

What you may not know simply by following me on Instagram is how much I have actually been wrestling with this whole idea of being "good enough" or "saved enough" - and dare I say Holy enough - for quite some time now.

So many times I find myself in situations where in my head I have a whirlwind of anxious thoughts worrying about whether or not I am going to say the right thing or what people are thinking about me if I say ____ or what they will think of me if I have nothing to say at all.

I am constantly having to die to my fear of man and how others see or perceive me.

But then in Chapter 1 of Dance, Stand, Run, Jess dove right in and wrote these words that I had probably heard before, but that she said in such a way that I felt like I was reading them for the very first time.  In Chapter 1 she writes:

"Here's the deal: God made us holy when He sent Jesus to die for us and give us a new identity.  BUT!  The Holy Spirit gets in on the action throughout the rest of our lives when He teaches us in the same gracious way to agree with our holiness.  God has already decided we are holy like Him; He's already done the work to make it so.  The only question here is:  Will we agree with the proclamation over our lives, and will we say yes to the work the Holy Spirit wants to do in us to make us more like Jesus?"

"1 Peter 1:14-16 says it this way: 'As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.  But as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written, 'Be holy, because I am holy.''"

- Jess Connolly, Dance Stand Run

Y'all.  If you skipped that whole quote because it looks like too much text, GO BACK AND READ IT NOW.

In just two paragraphs the Lord used Jess to shatter every insecure thought I'd ever had.

Do y'all hear what the Lord is saying?

He is saying to us all YOU ARE HOLY.

I mean isn't that what the gospel is?

The gospel is God sending His son Jesus to die for us and pay the price of sin that we owe (Romans 6:23), ultimately defeating death and making a way for us to be reunited with our Father in heaven forever and ever (John 3:16).

The gospel is the blood of Jesus washing over us making us white as snow.  Making us clean.  Making us righteous.  Making us new.

Making us Holy.

And when we put our faith in the gospel, that is how the Lord sees us.

He sees us as holy.  He sees us as His children.  As a new creation.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" 2 Corinthians 5:17

Wherever you might be, if you stop right now and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and proclaim the gospel to be true, this is how God sees you! (Romans 10:9-10)

Maybe you woke up this morning next to a man you aren't married to - if you surrender your heart to Him right now, this, is how God sees you.

Maybe you got wasted last weekend and have a history that just seems too bad for anyone, especially God, to love you - believe the gospel, and this, is how God sees you.

Maybe you have an addiction that you just can't overcome - accept Jesus as the Lord of your heart and this is how God sees you.

Or maybe you're like me, and you just want to be and achieve good things and want other people to think good things about you - we get to stop striving.  We get to rest in HIS identity.  We are good and holy and enough because of His work on the cross for us.

You are Holy.

Let that wash over you.  That Jesus would give His life so that YOU could be holy.

No more of having to strive to be good enough.  No more of having to work for and please others to get their approval of you.

Because the God of the universe approves of you.

Now, the question we must ask ourselves is, will we agree with this proclamation over our lives?

As Jess writes:

"Will we agree with the proclamation over our lives, and will we say yes to the work the Holy Spirit wants to do in us to make us more like Jesus?"

He has called us out of the darkness and into His wonderful light.  He has made us new.  So will we begin to live like we are Holy?  To walk in His ways?  And to say yes to His sanctifying work in us?

Or will we remain in the dark.  Living our old ways.  Chasing our old sins.  Enslaved to the world.

I pray you will be set free.  That you will let His holiness wash over you and lift you out of the darkness and begin to walk in His light.

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." - Galatians 5:1
