What would make 2016 better?
I've been working a lot on what I want to accomplish in 2016 this week. I've been trying to figure out what I want it to look like. Who I want to be when it's over. I think we all have. And next year, I think we'll do it again.
But what would really make 2016 better?
What are our resolutions really about?
I mean, losing weight is great. And going to the gym is great. And planning to finish a project is great.
But then there's that whole chance that we could die tomorrow? And then what? I mean call me morbid, but I'm being serious! You might've lost weight, but your year would be over.
Or the chance that tomorrow, everything could blow up in our faces and all of our plans to save money or our plans to finish a book or graduate would simply be out of our control and insignificant.
So then what?
What is it that we could do today that would truly make 2016 better? What do we have even the slightest bit of control over that we could work on today, and make a difference even if everything changed tomorrow?
Our relationships with each other and with our God.
I believe that those two things won't just improve our years, they will improve our lives.
Relationships (if we pursue them biblically) are eternal. They last longer than a fad diet and will leave you feeling more rich in joy than money ever will.
This year, my community group leader decided we were each going to choose 1 or 2 words to work on this year.
The words I chose for this year are: vulnerability and commitment.
Both of which I think and hope are going to hugely shape and impact my relationships with friends and family as well as my relationship with Jesus this year.
I still have a couple of projects I want to work on and of course I will do my best to stay healthy and treat my body well, but I hope and pray that relationships stay my priority.
Do y'all think relationships should be our priority?
What will you do in 2016 to improve yours?
